Sega's very first console release (Only in Japan!). Anyone own one of these? I've always wanted to own one of these! It's library was small and consisted of some of Sega's earliest classics! Can anyone speak from hands on experience? I'm very curious.

For a certain definition of "hands on", I did try out a SG1000 emulator disc on my Dreamcast and it's interesting to look at the roots of the Sega we knew and loved. If you can't get your hands on an actual system, I got the emulator from theisozone.com.

The SG-1000 is just too expensive at the moment. I've been bidding on a few, but they keep going for crazy money. I've got a nack for consoles, but they have to be boxed. That's not helping me getting one of these beauties...

That's not helping me getting one of these beauties... I hear you man. I wouldn't want to own one of these babies without the box. For me that's always been a huge part of the collecting experience. And it's not about the value increase that having the original box would provide. I think it has more to do with the history of the product. I'm a sucker for vintage pop culture!

No, but I had Congo Bongo, Champion Tennis, and Star Jacker with my Japanese SMS while I was in college years back.
The ladies were not impressed enough. There was more work to be done...

I really want one of these but, as stated above, they are pricey.

I just noticed this and thought I'd sign up and post. I've been playing every SG1000 game and posting my thoughts on youtube.
The system definitely feels like a generation before the Master System. A lot of the games feel like advanced Atari games or Coleco game. This makes sense. But, given this, there are some great games. Girl's Garden and Star Jacker immediately come to mind. It also has great ports of Galaga, Space Invaders and Lode Runner. It also has a few Sokoban variations that are really fun.

Thanks man! I wanted to shed some light on the Game Gear and Master System a bit more. The SG-1000 seemed like a good way to learn basic editing and also fill a much needed gap in SEGA content online. Given that this is a really obscure system and my first attempts at videos, I'm really happy with the responses I've been getting. I have a lot more subs than I thought a SG-1000 centric series would get. And some bigger names I watched for a while have been commenting regularly. I'm stoked and honestly kind of shocked that people like them as much as they do.

Dont forget it was released in Australia and New Zealand I own a sc-3000, (sg-1000 is a bit out of my price range) but its having technical difficulties at the moment, so i used my japanese master system to play my sg-1000 games. Im 3 short from all english games, i just picked up a boxed sega grandstand lode runner the other day, and ive got a few japanese games and my cards. Ill try post a pic of my collection tomorrow. Ive got quite a few cartridge only spares as well, lol i try to buy any i see come up.

Sweet took a pic of my current so far sg-1000 collection, and since my last post I might be able to pick up a complete copy of English version of flicky and champion baseball, which would just leave me champion soccer to go I believe www.mediafire.com/view/h5m7azm45c72167/SG-1000.jpgOh I have boxes for most of my games, but ive put them in wide dvd cases for display to preserve boxes
