Personally, I've always thought it was silly to complain about the difficulty in these types of games. The point of doing an arcade game is to make money, yes? If the game were too easy, you wouldn't have as many people putting quarters in and you'd lose out. When translating a game like this for home consoles, they had two options: lessen the dificullty and add new features to compensate (like when the NES port of TMNT Arcade added new levels), or do a straight port of the arcade version, unfair difficulty and all. What modern gamers need to understand is that it's not a flaw, that's just the way games were back then.

NES translations usually had the formula best; just make a game bearing the same title but do not attempt to emulate the arcade version. It was a big deal to be able to play arcade games at home back then but after the initial disappointment of not playing the game as it was in the arcade the realization came that games like Ninja Gaiden, Rygar, Commando, Double Dragon 2, and others were better as re-imaginations than a poor-mans version of the arcade game. Some of the SMS arcade translations that did attempt to be an exact emulation were at least fair though.
As for My Hero, I never had this one; it always was staring at me in the store but I already had Black Belt which was clearly superior. I think that the only two card games that I owned were Transbot and Ghost House. I remember Sega's sales pitch being along the lines of two kinds of technology with the card and cartridge. I guess that it worked since I bought a game card just to make use of the slot.

In Double Dragon, your girlfriend gets punched in the stomach and taken away. Then you come out from nowhere.

I quite like this game, I never played it until last year and didn't realise it was a arcade port until I saw the original board for sale!

Love the review. Never played this game, but now that you talk about the difficulty, I have to get my hands on it. I love hard as nails games so this really looks intriguing.

Try Ninja Gaiden. That's probably one of the hardest games on the NES. It'll kick your ass ten ways to sunday, but it does so fairly without any fake difficulty and little in the way of cheap shots. It's quite a workout.

It's quite a workout. I love Ninja Gaiden, my second favorite series on the NES. I have all three and those games are afraid of me. lol
