What would a Sega website be without a thread of Sega's 16 bit console, aka the greatest 16 bit console ever made. Share your love here.

Got mine within a week after release in September 1989 for $189.99; I know that some criticize Altered Beast but for the time it was a great pack-in game that established how close the Genesis could replicate current Sega arcade titles; not quite exact but good enough.
The console also cultivated my love for shooters (Now known as shoot-em-ups) as the system was inundated with them for its' first couple of years. The first three years or so were the best for me as there was a feeling of endless possibility around the platform; after that it did become too heavy on the exploding popularity of sports games but still with good non-sports titles mixed in.
Overall though I'd have to say that I liked Genesis, SNES, and TG-16/CD pretty much equally; there were times back then where I leaned one way or another but looking back at it I can't definitively pick a favorite; probably because I admire any of those consoles drastically more than anything offered in present times or the recent past.

The Genesis kickstarted my love of fighting games. My best friend had Mortal Kombat II and Eternal Champions and we'd spend hours beating the crap out of each other, figuring out all the combos and special moves, trying to unlock the secret characters, etc. We also spent quite a bit of time with Risk. Good times.

Good times. Same here with the fighting games. I mean I lived at the arcade and played MKII there quite a bit and Street Fighter II, but my older brother convinced me to get UMK3 and some 6 button controllers and that was it for me. I was in love. lol Also Altered Beast is an amazing game. I took me awhile before I got to play that one and I had saw video of it and just from that it didn't look that great, but I found out that it's one of those you have to play to understand. When I finally got he chance I was like "Oh, now I get it."

The Genesis is one of my favorite systems. It was a no brainier when it came out for me. I already had a Master System so I was than excited for the Genesis. I even had the Power Base converter to play my SMS games on it. The first one I purchased had Altered Beasts on the cover and came with the game. Wonderful memories!

See I envy you. I didn't get it until a little later when Sonic 2 was the pack in title. My parents not having much money saved up enough to get me the Core set and then bought me Shaq Fu with it. Not that I have a problem with the Core set or Shaq Fu, I'm envious because I wish I could have gotten in on it from the year of release. Still love the console and try to play it every day.

One of the main attractions for me was Phantasy Star II. I loved part I and so this was an easy choice. Landstalker, Shining in the Darkness, all great titles.

I'm not a big rpg person, or small one for that matter. Never really got into those and from what I hear I've been missing out when it comes to that. I did like Shining Force but probably because it played different that most rpgs.

The best RPG I've ever played was Lunar: Silver Star Story on the PS1. I've always wanted to play the Sega CD version to see what's the same and what's different. I'll have to buy a second one, though. I've come to the conclusion that whatever's wrong with mine is beyond my capacity to fix. That's okay, though. I'll offer it to the local retro store and see if they want to try and fix it to sell.

I was 13 years old in 1999, and Lunar was the first and only game that ever had me tear up during It's finale. What a truly captivating story line. It's presentation was grandiose, and the many colorful characters were like old friends. Having never fully played the Sega CD version, the PS1 version was the best way to experience such a game. A memory I'll never forget. Almost equally memorable is the game's sequel, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue. Got to showcase the intro... thanks for bringing up Lunar!

Yep there were plenty of quality RPG's available for the Genesis; handed over a pretty penny for many of them too; $85 for Phantasy Star II; $70 for Phantasy Star III; $85 for Phantasy Star IV; (Got a "deal" on it from a mom and pop game store, normally it was 100) $80 for Beyond Oasis; can't quite remember what Landstalker, Shining Force, and Shining in the Darkness went for; I should have picked up Crusade of Centy for a mere $40 but didn't do it when the opportunity was there, and never did buy Shining Force II. All of the aforementioned range from decent to excellent.
I didn't get much exposure to the Sega CD RPG's; once the TurboDuo ran its' course in late 1994 I bought a used Sega CD with a discounted Lunar Silver Star (along with a couple of shmups) ready to go however the system was faulty and I wasn't in the state of mind to buy another one after that. I do own a copy of Lunar Silver Star Story on PSP however.

I buy a lot of my games at thrift stores so I get the good deals like crazy. I came across Lunar 2 with everything in box. Or so I thought. I bought it for 2 bucks with a bunch of other games to find out that disc 1 wasn't disc 1, it was a bonus content disc.

That happened to me with a used copy of Dragon Quest 8 that I purchased from Gamestop; I played the game for just over a couple of hours and then it suddenly ended and said coming soon or something like that; I realized at that point that I received a preview copy that was probably included with another SquareEnix RPG; of course I was able to exchange it for the real thing without issue but it was annoying nonetheless to repeat the same two hours over again.
